LEWISTON — A 54-year-old Lewiston firefighter has been charged for allegedly raping a young girl over a period of years in the 1990s.

Donald Lagrange of Auburn was arrested Thursday after a grand jury indicted him on three counts of gross sexual assault.

Police said the alleged victim, who is now 26, said the assaults began when she was a child and continued until she was 16 and moved away to North Carolina, where she still lives.

She told the Sun Journal of Lewiston that she contacted police after all these years in part because Lagrange remained a firefighter, a position she said children look up to.

Lagrange was released on bail Thursday night.
