AUBURN — Police in Auburn say a dozen men face charges following a sting operation that targeted men who were soliciting or engaging in sexual activity in public places.

Deputy Police Chief Jason Moen said undercover officers targeted wooded areas off Whitman Spring Road and at a causeway rest area along Route 4. The operation began in late August following complaints about men propositioning strangers or engaging in sexual activity in public view.

Police said the men ranged in age from 31 to 74 and were charged with indecent conduct or unlawful sexual touching.

Moen told the Sun Journal of Lewiston that the undercover operations will continue.
