YARMOUTH — Motorists can expect long delays on busy Interstate 295 north of Portland as work resumes on a highway bridge.

The Maine Department of Transportation says the northbound lanes of I-295 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in the Yarmouth area from 9 p.m. tonight through noon Monday. The lane reduction is necessary to allow crews to complete joint repairs and resurfacing of the bridge over the Royal River in Yarmouth.

When the DOT closed the interstate lane for work in August, traffic was backed up at times for more than an hour.

The DOT then decided to postpone completion of the work until September, when traffic is lighter than in August.
