BURLINGTON, Vt. – Michelle Niedziejko scored off a centering pass from Kelly Newton with less than five minutes left to send the University of Maine to a 2-1 field hockey win over Harvard on Saturday, the first day of the Catamount Classic.

Newton tipped in a long ball by Stephanie Gardiner to put the Black Bears (3-2) on top in the ninth minute.

Rachael Rosenfeld tied the score in the 16th minute for the Crimson (2-1).

BOWDOIN 4, AMHERST 3: Jessie Small scored with less than 13 minutes left to lift the Polar Bears over the Jeffs in Brunswick.

TRINITY 5, COLBY 1: Payson Sword scored three times to lead the Bantams past the Mules at Hartford, Conn.

NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 3, UNE 1: Emily Kuchta broke a scoreless tie with two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, and the Pilgrims (1-3) beat the Nor’easters (2-2) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference opener at Biddeford.

FRAMINGHAM STATE 1, USM 0: Kristen Sacco scored early in the second half as the Rams (1-2) edged the Huskies (2-3) at Framingham, Mass.

Kayla Kennedy made seven saves for USM.

ST. JOSEPH’S 3, LASELL 1: Sarah Bartell and Courtney Rague scored first-half goals to help the Monks (2-0) hold off the Lasers (1-3) at Standish.

The Monks went up 3-0 when Rachelle Messuri scored in the 61st minute.
