Trail run will kick off reserve’s EcoSports Day

The first EcoSports Day will be held rain or shine on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm.

Sample paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, yoga, Zumba, fitness gear and golf, among other activities for the price of admission to the reserve.

Members of the Nor’easters Kite Flying Club will be hoping for a good breeze so they can display a variety of kite styles, techniques and designs. New England Brisketeers will offer fresh-smoked barbecue and Duffy’s Tavern & Grill will serve beer and non-alcoholic beverages.

The Laudholm 5K Trail Run and 2.5K Walk also will be held at the Wells Reserve on Sept. 26. Sign-in starts at 9 a.m. and the run and walk start at 10 a,m. Advance online registration is preferred through active.com or you can print and mail a form at wellsreserve.org. The 5K registration fee is $18 general or $15 for Laudholm members and the first 50 runners to register receive a T-shirt. The 2.5K is $10 general or $7.50 for Laudholm members. There will also be a Kid’s Dash just for fun.

Proceeds from the event benefit Laudholm Trust, the nonprofit organization that supports coastal research, education, stewardship, and preservation at the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve.

For more information, visit wellsreserve.org or call 207-646-4521. Admission to the Wells Reserve is free for kids under 6, $1 for those 6 to 16, and $3 for those over 16, with a $10 maximum per car. Members of Laudholm Trust enjoy free admission.

The Wells Reserve is located at 342 Laudholm Farm Road, just off Routes 1 and 9 near the Wells-Kennebunk line and just 7 minutes from Maine Turnpike exit 19. The site boasts several historic buildings and 7 miles of hiking trails through fields and forests to salt marshes and a beach.

L.L. Bean offers variety of adventures this fall

Through Columbus Day, the popular Walk-On Adventures continue out of the L.L.Bean flagship store in Freeport every Saturday and Sunday.

For just $20, you can enjoy a relaxing, interpretative kayak tour on the Harraseeket River or practice your target skills with sporting clays or archery. With all of the Walk-On Adventures, all of the equipment, gear and instruction are provided.

Walk-On Adventures are a great way to try a new sport in just an hour or two. No experience is necessary, and signing up is easy — by calling 1-877-755-2326 or by signing up at the Outdoor Discovery Schools kiosk at the flagship store in Freeport.

The Scenic Guided Kayak Tour is offered Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Columbus Day. The kayak tours are $59 and include all of the necessary equipment, gear, guides and a light snack.
