GORHAM – St. Joseph’s scored three times in a 15-minute span early in the second half and defeated the University of Southern Maine 4-1 Wednesday in a men’s soccer game.

The Monks (4-2) broke a scoreless tie in the 51st minute on a 45-yard, wind-aided free kick by Eamonn Harrigan. Ten minutes later, Greg Jentgen scored from 8 yards before Matt Barlion scored to make it 3-0.

Matt Powers’ free kick went off a defender for an own goal to pull the Huskies (0-5) within 3-1, but Paul Robins added the final goal for the Monks in the 84th minute.

COLBY 1, MAINE MARITIME 0: Peter Randall converted a cross from Nick Aubin with 6:38 remaining in the first half and the Mules (2-0) shut out the Mariners (2-3-1) at Waterville.

Ricky Bartlett made nine saves for Maine Maritime.

BOWDOIN 2, HUSSON 1: The Polar Bears (1-1) scored two goals late in the second half and held off the Eagles (3-3) at Brunswick.

Michelle Manning scored at 60:42 to give Husson a 1-0 lead. Becky Stoneham ripped a shot just under the crossbar from 25 yards to tie the game with 10:10 remaining.

Casey Blossom took a deflected cross from Celeste Swain and scored the winner with 4:55 left.

Kat Flaherty made four saves for Bowdoin.

ST. JOSEPH’S 4, PINE MANOR 0: Jessica Needham had two goals to help the Monks (3-0) to a victory over the Gators (0-3) at Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Ashley Beaulieu and Cassie Diplock added a goal each for the Monks.

FIELD HOCKEY

UM-FARMINGTON 2, USM 1: Hattie Laliberte scored two goals to rally the Beavers (2-0) to a win over the Huskies (2-4) Farmington.

Laliberte’s go-ahead goal came off a feed from Jessica Martin.

Ariel Kaplan scored on a pass from Whitney McDaniel to give USM a 1-0 lead.

COLBY 4, HUSSON 1: Courtney Erskine scored two goals as the Mules (1-1) raced to a 4-0 lead and held off the Eagles (1-2) at Waterville.

Heather Quadir and Charlotte Deavers also scored for Colby.

Helen Berry broke up the shutout when she scored with 3:41 left in the game.
