The Director of the White House Office of Health Reform will be in Portland Monday to recognize the state leadership in reform efforts, according to Gov. John Baldacci’s office.

Nancy-Ann DeParle will meet with Baldacci at 1 p.m. at the Muskie School of Public Service in Portland.

DeParle is overseeing the implementation of the federal Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law by President Obama in March.

Many provisions of the law do not go into effect until 2014, but Maine has already begun a program for part-time employees to help them afford their employer’s insurance and extended coverage for people with pre-existing health care conditions, according to Baldacci’s office.

Two Mainers who recently got coverage despite preexisting conditions will speak to DeParle and Baldacci.
