The City Council in Westbrook will hold a special meeting Wednesday morning to review an ordinance that would regulate nude dancing.
The meeting was announced following the abrupt opening of a new strip club that opened Friday, apparently without the city’s knowledge.
The fully nude strip club, Dreamers Cabaret, at 84B Warren Ave., was shut down on Saturday after the city’s fire inspector found a few minor violations. Westbrook’s code enforcement officer revoked the club’s occupancy permit Monday afternoon.
City Administrator Jerre Bryant said the five-page ordinance would not prohibit a strip club from operating in the city, but it will not permit total nudity.
He said the council is expected to make a recommendation for consideration to the city’s Committee of the Whole, which is made up of the seven city councilors. The committee will then review the ordinance and meet on Oct. 18 to make a recommendation the city council.
Wednesday’s meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. at City Hall. The public can speak on the issue.
