GORHAM — Katie Herter scored two goals as the Bowdoin field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 3-0 victory Tuesday against the University of Southern Maine.

Herter got her first goal 16:07 into the game for the Polar Bears (4-0), who are ranked seventh in the Division III national poll. Kassey Matoin extended the lead to 2-0 31 seconds later.

Goalie Kayla Kennedy stopped nine shots for the Huskies (3-5), and Heather Gilman made one defensive save.

 

BATES 1, HUSSON 0: Sophomore Riley Kundtz scored her first career goal on an assist from Sema Kazarian with 7:55 left in the first half to lift the Bobcats (1-3) over the Eagles (2-3) at Lewiston.

Bates got eight saves from goalie Katie McEnroe. Husson keeper Kristen Capen also finished with eight saves.

MEN’S SOCCER

THOMAS 2, USM 1: Casey Castle scored his second goal of the game midway through the second half to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Terriers (3-2-2) over the Huskies (1-6) at Waterville.

Castle opened the scoring with 25 minutes left in the first half. The Huskies evened the score five minutes into the second half when Nick Johnson scored off a rebounded shot by Peter McHugh.

 

PLYMOUTH STATE 2, BATES 1: Arthur Opara and Jake Sjoberg scored in the first 25 minutes and the Panthers (2-3-1) held off the Bobcats (1-2-1) at Lewiston.

Bates cut the deficit with 23:33 left in the second half when Dan Remillard curled a corner kick into the net.

COLBY 6, HUSSON 2: Nate Tolman scored two goals and Andrew Meisel recorded three assists as the Mules (2-1) cruised to a win over the Eagles (1-5) at Bangor.

Nick Aubin, Matias Rodlauer and Chris Roccotagliata added one goal apiece for Colby, which led 3-0 at halftime.

 

UNE 2, ENDICOTT 1: Dan Crear broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 75th minute, giving the Nor’easters (3-2-2, 1-1-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference) a win over Endicott (0-5-1, 0-3-0) at Beverly, Mass.

Ethan Wells scored UNE’s first goal, and Craig Jameson scored for the Gulls. Jon Planner had five saves for the Nor’easters.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 1, EASTERN MAINE CC 0: Joe Anderson scored the only goal and Tyler Doughty made four saves as the Seawolves (5-3) topped the Golden Eagles (2-2) at Bangor.

Anderson scored from Osward Citegetse in the 25th minute.

Erik Petersen made 17 saves for EMCC.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

ENDICOTT 3, UNE 1: The Gulls (4-2-1, 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference) scored a pair of goals eight minutes apart midway through the first half to pull away from the Nor’easters (5-2, 2-1) at Beverly, Mass.

Morgan Jensen broke up the shutout when she scored with 2:20 left in the game. Jess Woodworth made nine saves for the Nor’easters, who were outshot, 21-8.

 

COLBY 0, BOWDOIN 0: Jayde Bennett earned her third shutout of the season for the Mules (1-0-3, 0-0-3 NESCAC) in a tie against the Polar Bears (2-1-1, 1-1-1) at Waterville.

Bennett stopped four shots while lowering her goals-against average to 0.43. Bowdoin goalkeeper Kat Flaherty finished with three saves.

 

SALEM STATE 1, USM 0: Taylor Orlando scored on a header off a cross from Katylyn Verrette in the 39th minute as the Vikings (3-3-1) edged the Huskies (2-6) at Gorham.

Kat Rothe finished with six saves for the Huskies.

BASEBALL

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 5, CENTRAL MAINE CC 4: Kory Martin scored on a single by CJ Giles in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Seawolves (1-6) to a win over the Mustangs (3-3) at South Portland.

Jeremy Gearty added an RBI triple and an RBI double for SMCC, and Andrew Watt did not allow an earned run and struck out 11 to earn the victory.
