FARMINGTON – Penalty kicks hurt in soccer. Giving up a penalty kick that ties the game in the 80th minute hurts even more.
Paul Robins delivered the blow for St. Joseph’s when he scored on a penalty kick in the 80th minute to earn a 2-2 tie with the University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday.
Dillon Clark scored the only goal of the first half for the Beavers. Jack LaFreniere tied it on a header in the 54th minute.
Jordan Hale put UMF ahead 2-1 in the 61st minute.
Nick Campasano made 10 saves for St. Joseph’s and Tennessee Peters stopped 13 shots for UMF.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
BATES 4, WELLESLEY 2: The Bobcats (2-1-1) scored three second-half goals and beat Wellesley (3-3-1) at Lewiston.
Tina Tobin and Courtney Talcott each notched her first goal of the season and Jaimie Cappucci got the final goal, her second of the season.
Sam Alper scored in the first half and Annie Burns made five saves for Bates.
BASEBALL
SMCC 6, BRIDGTON ACADEMY 2: Mike Crowley hit a solo home run and a two-run single as the Seawolves (2-6) cruised to a win over the Wolverines at Portland. Moustafa Jamal pitched a seven-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks.
David Boggart added a double and a triple with one run scored. Ben Callahan hit an RBI single and a double for Bridgton.
