The lawyer representing the owner of an embattled strip club on Warren Avenue in Westbrook is holding a press conference this afternoon to correct what he says is misinformation about the business.

Dreamers Cabaret opened Friday but was closed by city officials on Saturday after a fire inspector discovered alleged code violations involving sprinkers, an alarm system and other items. The city has said it was not aware Ferrante planned to operate a strip club.

On Monday the city revoked the occupancy permit issued to owner Lawrence Ferrante. The Westbrook City Council has since begun work on an ordinance to regulate nude dancing.

Ferrante’s attorney, Thomas Hallett, plans to meet with reporters at 2 p.m. today at the business. He has said Dreamers should not be subject to the proposed ordinance because it was already in operation.
