PORTLAND — A Greyhound bus driver dubbed the “burly bandit” by the FBI has pleaded guilty to 11 bank robberies across New England and New York state.
Robert Ferguson of Lowell, Mass., entered the pleas today in U.S. District Court in Bangor, where he was charged with robbing a bank in July.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nancy Torresen says Ferguson stole more than $100,000 during a spree that began in April with a bank robbery in Buffalo, N.Y. Prosecutors say he robbed additional banks and credit unions in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and New Hampshire before his arrest in Maine.
Torresen says law enforcement recovered about $11,000. A court document says Ferguson spent the rest on strip clubs, dining out, sports memorabilia and car stereos, among other things.
