WATERVILLE — Relatives of a Maine soldier who was killed in Afghanistan earlier this year are to receive a medal during a ceremony in Waterville.

The family of Spc. Wade Slack of Waterville, who was killed in combat May 6, is to receive the Medal of Valor, the highest award presented by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe is to attend tonight’s 7 p.m. ceremony.

Slack was assigned to the 707th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Co. He graduated from Waterville High School in 2007.
