GORHAM – Courtney Cochran scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds as the University of Southern Maine pulled away from St. Joseph’s College in the second half for a 70-48 victory in a college women’s basketball game Sunday night.

Haley Jordan added 12 points and Kaylie DeMillo scored 10 for the Huskies (2-2), who limited St. Joseph’s to just 28-percent shooting from the field.

The Monks (2-2) were paced by Ashley Geel with 11 points and Abby Young, who had 10.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S 81, SOUTHERN MAINE 75: Tyler Kelley scored 27 points, including three 3-pointers, and had four steals to lead the Monks (3-0) as they rallied from a 44-37 halftime deficit against the Huskies (4-1) at Gorham.

Chris Petzy added 19 points and Anthony Savino finished with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Monks, who held the Huskies without a field goal for the final 2:53 of regulation.

The Huskies, who led by as many as 11 points in the first half, were paced by Corteze Isaac with 27 points.

MEN’S HOCKEY

BOWDOIN 6, SUFFOLK 2: Colin Downey and Jeff Fanning scored two goals apiece for the Polar Bears (3-0) as they scored six unanswered goals to pull away from the Rams (4-5) during the second day of the Colby-Bowdoin Faceoff Classic at Waterville.

Downey also had an assist for the Polar Bears and Jordan Lalor and Nick Wetzel added one goal and one assist apiece.

Bowdoin goalie Richard Nerland finished with 31 saves.

COLBY 2, US U-18 TEAM 1: Karl Burns and Billy Crinnion each scored first period goals and the Mules held on for an exhibition win over the US Under-18 team in the Bowdoin/Colby Faceoff Classic at Waterville.

Senior goaltender Cody McKinney finished with 35 saves for Colby, which won the tournament; they were the only team with a 2-0 record.

BUFFALO STATE 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Three different players scored a goal and Kevin Carr made 24 saves as the Bengals (6-2-1) downed the Huskies (1-3-1) in the championship game of the Skidmore Invitational at Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Braely Torris made 26 saves for Southern Maine.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 6, SALVE REGINA 4: John Melancon scored on an assist from Tyler Fleurent with 10:15 left in regulation to break a 4-4 tie and lift the Nor’easters (1-3) over the Seahawks (0-5) in the consolation game of the PAL Stovepipe Tournament hosted by Southern New Hampshire University in Hooksett, N.H.

Jack Nolin and Sean Sullivan finished with one goal and one assist apiece for the Nor’easters, who rallied from a 4-2 deficit.

Nor’easters goaltender Connor Brogan, a freshman, made 24 saves in his first career start.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

COLBY 4, WILLIAMS 1: Meghan Tedoldi and Liz Osgood had one goal and one assist apiece as the Mules (2-2, 1-2 NESCAC) beat the Ephs (1-3, 1-3) at Williamstown, Mass.

Tasha Rivard and Annie Papadellis added one goal apiece for Colby and Stephanie Scarpato recorded two assists.

Brianne Wheeler finished with 29 saves for the Mules.

MIDDLEBURY 5, BOWDOIN 2: Anna McNally scored a pair of goals and recorded her 100th career point to lead the Panthers (5-0, 4-0 NESCAC) to a win over the Polar Bears (3-1, 2-1) at Middlebury, Vt.

Shelagh Merrill and Kendra Sweet each scored goals for the Polar Bears, who were outshot, 51-19.

Bowdoin goalie Sage Santangelo finished with 46 saves.
