BAR HARBOR — The head of the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor is stepping down in January after more than eight years on the job.

President and CEO Rick Woychik said Tuesday he is taking a position as deputy director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in North Carolina. Woychik announced last March that he would be leaving, but gave no date for his departure.

The Jackson Laboratory specializes in mouse genetics to prevent and treat human diseases.

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences is one of 27 research institutes that comprise the National Institutes of Health.
