LEWISTON — One of the Grammy nominees for song of the year is a New Hampshire native and former shoe worker in Lewiston.
Ray LaMontagne’s latest album, August’s “God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise,” has received two other nominations including Best Contemporary Folk Album. RCA Records says it debuted at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top 200 and No. 1 on the digital album chart.
The Sun Journal says LaMontagne’s family moved a lot, and he ended up in Lewiston, where he worked in a shoe factory. He later quit the job to begin his music career.
He now lives in western Massachusetts on a farm that once belonged to Norman Mailer. It was there that he recorded the newest album with his band, the Pariah Dogs.
