PORTLAND — A network of Portland women has organized a Haitian Art Sale to benefit Konbit Sante Cap-Hatien Health Partnership.

The sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence Arts Center on Congress Street. All proceeds will benefit the continuing education, prevention and treatment efforts by the locally based nonprofit organization working to improve the health system in the north of Haiti.

The sale is prompted by the recent outbreak of cholera in Haiti. Konbit Sante’s Maine and Hatian staff have been active since the beginning of the cholera epidemic, primarily working with the Ministry of Health and with non-government organizations to provide education about and resources for sanitation and water purification.

Konbit Sante purchased Haitian art from craftspeople with few opportunities to sell their wares within their own country. The recycled-oil-drum wall art is purchased at fair prices and will be sold at Saturday’s art sale to help fund needed health services in Haiti.

Konbit Sante volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about their work in Haiti, or visit www.healthyhaiti.org for more information.
