RUMFORD — The body of a Maine soldier killed in Afghanistan is being laid to rest today.

A funeral service for 24-year-old Pvt. Buddy McLain is being held with full military honors at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, where he graduated.

McLain was a cavalry scout with the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky. He was one of six soldiers killed Nov. 29 by an Afghan border policeman who turned his gun on his trainers. The Taliban claimed responsibility, saying the gunman had enlisted as a sleeper agent.

McLain, of Mexico, is survived by his wife and their 15-month-old son.

Gov. John Baldacci has ordered flags be flown at half-staff today in McLain’s honor.
