Saco Spirit’s Holiday Fest in downtown Saco on Saturday featured activities for all ages.

The event was part of the organization’s challenge, “Take me Downtown,” encouraging area residents to shop on Main Street for the holidays.

Businesses decorated their storefronts for the holiday and hosted a number of events, including pictures with Santa for pets at Sooper Dogs to benefit Lucky Pup Rescue and the Biddeford Dog Park, and free gingerbread-making and crafts at Buck Nuts and Sam’s Place.

Saco Spirit is a nonprofit organization promoting Saco as a Main Street Maine community through downtown revitalization. Other free events hosted by the organization included horse and buggy rides through downtown, and a petting zoo and live Nativity scene on Main Street.

During the afternoon, holiday movies were screened in the auditorium of City Hall and Santa made a second visit to share cookies and hot chocolate with area youth.
