EASTBROOK — Maine State Police say a Maine man was shot to death following a confrontation outside a home in the Hancock County town of Eastbrook.

Investigators say they received two 911 calls early today. Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department says one of the calls was made by a homeowner who claimed he was assaulted outside his home after being lured outside by a woman who claimed she’d been in a car crash.

McCausland says the dead man is identified as 23-year-old Nicholas Richards of Machias. An autopsy determined he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

McCausland says the homeowner isn’t being identified. He says detectives are continuing to conduct interviews and to process the crime scene.
