AUGUSTA — Energy officials say heating oil prices in Maine have gone up 3 cents per gallon over the past week.

The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security said today that the statewide average heating oil price is $2.96 per gallon. Within the sample, the highest price of $3.16 was found in northern Maine, while the lowest price – $2.75 – was found in southwestern Maine.

Director John Kerry said demand is increasing, sending heating oil prices higher and leading to projections of lower inventories this winter.
