FALMOUTH — An accident involving a U.S. Postal Service truck forced police to shut down the southbound lanes of Route 1 this morning for nearly two hours.

Police Chief Edward Tolan said a Honda Civic operated by Lisa Corson, 40, of Falmouth, appears to have rear-ended a mail truck driven by 61-year-old John McLean of Portland around 11:15 a.m.

The impact pushed the mail truck, which was making deliveries, into a utility pole near the Route 1 intersection with Webber Way and Greenway Drive and caused the Honda Civic to flip on its side. Emergency responders had to cut off the roof of the car to remove Corson.

Corson and McLean were transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Tolan said no charges have been filed, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
