AUGUSTA – An Augusta man has been indicted on a murder charge in connection with the death of Paul Allen this month.

Peter George Bathgate II, 30, was indicted Friday by a Kennebec County grand jury on one count of murder. The indictment alleges the killing of Allen, 47, of Augusta occurred Dec. 3.

Allen’s body was found in Hallowell on Dec. 5.

Bathgate was arrested Dec. 7.

An affidavit by state police Detective Adam Kelley alleges Bathgate used a walking cane to stab Allen to death. Kelley asserts that Allen had angered Bathgate by flirting with an Augusta woman who has a 3-year-old daughter with Bathgate.
