Hiram man dies after crash late Friday along Route 5

A 26-year-old Hiram man died in a motor vehicle accident late Friday on Route 5. Michael Chick was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee when his vehicle left the road and went into a ditch. Chick lost control, and the vehicle hit a telephone pole and came to a stop in a stand of trees. Road conditions were clear and dry at the time, police said.

Boundary Road house fire leaves family of eight displaced

A family of eight was displaced from its home at 54 Boundary Road because of a house fire Saturday. Firefighters were called to the scene at 12:58 p.m. The fire, deemed accidental, was confined to a single room on the second floor. The rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported.

State workers, retirees raise $325,000 for charities

Gov. John Baldacci says nearly $325,000 is being raised by state workers and retirees to benefit charities in Maine and beyond.

Maine State Employees Combined Charitable Appeal is a voluntary drive benefiting about 500 charities.
