LAGRANGE  — A 41-year-old Maine woman who nearly died after being attacked by a dog while walking in the town of Lagrange is out of the hospital.

Karen Stewart of Prentiss Township lost her right arm following the Nov. 12 attack.

Friends who helped rescue Stewart say she was “ripped apart” and had more than 20 dog bites. Stewart was taken to a Boston hospital where she remained until Dec. 10.

Stewart says she’s glad the American bulldog mix that attacked her has been put down.

The dog’s owner has been charged with keeping a dangerous dog.

Stewart tells the Bangor Daily News she’s glad to be alive.
