AUGUSTA — Energy officials say the average price for home heating oil in Maine has risen two cents a gallon from last week as cold weather drives up demand.

In its weekly survey, the Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Security says the statewide average price is $2.98 per gallon.

Southwest Maine had the lowest price of $2.80 per gallon while northern Maine had the highest price of $3.16 per gallon.

Energy Director John Kerry said today that cold weather throughout Europe and the Northeastern United States has pushed up demand and the corresponding price for heating oil.
