BIDDEFORD —The Heart of Biddeford Board of Directors has seen a change in leadership and welcomed new members since the firing of Executive Director Ezekiel “Zeke” Callanan earlier this month.

Tammy Ackerman, co-founder of Engine, a nonprofit Biddeford arts organization, will be the new board president. She has previously served on the Heart of Biddeford board and as part of the nonprofit organization’s design committee.

“Since I’m so actively involved in the design committee and on the board in general, I’m just switching hats from what I’ve been doing already,” Ackerman said.

This transition comes after Megan Rochelo stepped down from the position, Ackerman said. Rochelo, who was elected to represent District 136 in the Maine House of Representatives, will remain active on the board.

The board of directors also welcomes Jen DeBurro and the Rev. Ron Labarre as new members and Holly Culloton, owner of LaCava on Water Street in Biddeford, as a returning member.

Members of the board of directors are all filling in while the organization searches for a new executive director, Ackerman said. She expects a job description for the position to be posted after the first of the year.

The board of directors is also searching for community members to serve on the organization’s committees. The promotion and organization committees are two that “could stand to have some new bodies,” Ackerman said.
