A sergeant with the York County Sheriff’s Office shot and killed a 22-year-old Sanford man Saturday night in Lyman.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. at a home on Fauchers Lane, where two deputies responding to a call for assistance met Andrew Landry and two other individuals.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, Landry allegedly brandished two knives. After moving the other two individuals to safety, the deputies attempted to disarm Landry with a Taser but did not succeed, leading to the use of deadly force.

Neither deputy was injured. Sgt. Kyle Kassa has been placed on paid administrative leave, as is customary pending an investigation by the Maine Attorney General’s Office into any shooting death by law enforcement.
