BRUNSWICK – Bates ended the first half on a 21-4 run to build a 15-point lead, then led by as many as 24 in the second half on the way to a 77-56 victory Saturday over Bowdoin in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women’s basketball game.

Annie Beaulieu had 16 points and six assists for the Bobcats (14-5, 3-2 NESCAC), and Jessie Igoe added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Jill Henrikson had 29 points for the Polar Bears (14-3, 1-2) and tied a school record with six 3-pointers.

COLBY 67, TUFTS 54: Jules Kowalski had 13 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, and Jayde Bennett added 11 points and 11 rebounds as Colby (12-3, 2-1 NESCAC) defeated Tufts (12-3, 2-2) at Waterville. 

USM 74, WESTERN CONN. STATE 53: Courtney Cochran scored 21 points with 17 rebounds to lead the Huskies (11-6, 6-1 Little East) past the Colonials (14-3, 6-1) at Gorham.

Cochran, a junior, was 7 of 8 at the free-throw line and 7 of 11 from the floor to score her career high. Kaylie DeMillo added 18 points, including nine during a 16-0 first-half run that helped the Huskies take a 45-28 halftime lead. Renee Nicholas finished with 13 points and Erin McNamara had 11.

UNE 94, ANNA MARIA 51: Kelley Paradis scored 16 points to lead the Nor’easters (11-6, 4-1 Commonwealth Coast) past Anna Maria (6-11, 0-5) at Paxton, Mass.

Margo Russell added 15 points for UNE, which shot 57 percent from the floor in the first half to race to a 52-23 lead. Kari Pelletier scored 14, Beth Suggs 12 and Carrie Bunnell 10. Paradis also made five steals.

Alison McCarthy led Anna Maria with 15 points on five 3-pointers.

ST. JOSEPH’S 74, SIMMONS 56: Meghan McDevitt tied a school record with six 3-pointers and scored 19 points to lead St. Joseph’s (11-6, 3-1 GNAC) to a win over Simmons (7-10, 2-4) at Standish.

The Monks took a 41-23 lead at halftime after going on a 19-1 run midway through the half.

Ashley Geel added 13 points for the Monks, and Lindsay Moore chipped in with 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 83, UNITY 27: Christina Ricci had 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Seawolves won at South Portland.

Alisa Sweet added 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Jessica Truman and Esther Palmieri each added 13 points.

HOCKEY

TRINITY 2, BOWDOIN 2: Madeline Lane scored a power-play goal with 6:13 remaining to pull the Polar Bears (9-5-2, 6-3-1 NESCAC) into a tie with the Bantams (10-2-4, 3-2-3) at Brunswick.

Jay Greene also scored for Bowdoin. Kim Weiss scored twice for Trinity, including a go-ahead goal with 13:43 left in the third period. 

COLBY 2, WESLEYAN 1: Meghan Tedoldi and Alexandra Essman scored in the first seven minutes of the third period to lift the Mules (7-10, 3-7 NESCAC) over the Cardinals (2-11-1, 0-8) at Waterville.

Colby outshot Wesleyan 50-15. 

MANHATTANVILLE 4, USM 2: Shannon Coffey and Hannah Muskego scored in a span of 1:20 late in the second period as the Valiants (11-4-1, 9-1 ECAC East) erased a 2-1 deficit against the Huskies (4-11-1, 3-8-1) at Rye, N.Y.

Southern Maine took the lead on goals by Christen Hart in the first period and Erin Banfield in the second.

Jordan Lee finished with 27 saves for the Huskies. 

UCONN 3, MAINE 1: Brittany Murphy scored twice as the Huskies (12-13-1, 8-4-1 Hockey East) edged the Black Bears (9-13-4, 3-9-2) at Orono.

Brittany Dougherty gave Maine the lead early in the first, but Murphy tied it with 1:15 left in the period.

Kelly Horan put Connecticut ahead in the second, and Murphy added an empty-net goal with 22 seconds left.
