AUGUSTA — Nominations are now being accepted for the state’s top poet.

The Maine Arts Commission and Maine State Library are accepting nominations until Feb. 25 to fill the position of Maine State Poet Laureate to advocate the value of the written word across Maine.

Maine has had three poet laureates since the post was established in 1995. Each laureate serves a five-year term.

By law, the position is held by a published poet who lives in Maine. An advisory selection committee will make a recommendation to the governor for his approval.
