Former South Portland High School star Keegan Hyland has left the University of Vermont men’s basketball team and returned home, his father, Tom Hyland, confirmed tonight.

Hyland, a 6-foot-4 freshman, spent the fall semester at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., but left after suffering a knee injury and a concussion. He transferred to Vermont before the start of the spring semester in January.

NCAA rules will require Hyland to sit out two semesters if he accepts a scholarship at another Division I program.
