WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine has gone to Europe as part of a congressional delegation attending an international security conference.
Collins said Thursday, during a breakfast meeting with the Maine State Society, that much of the focus of the 47th annual Munich Security Conference will be on events in Egypt.
The conference says its mission is to bring “together senior figures from around the world to engage in an intensive debate on current and future security challenges.”
Collins is the top Republican on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The bipartisan congressional delegation totals 17 lawmakers from the House and Senate homeland security and armed services committees.
The conference runs today through Sunday. The congressional delegation is expected to hold a news conference from Munich on Saturday.
On its way to Munich, the delegation was scheduled to stop in Lithuania, where the lawmakers planned to meet with members of the opposition Belarusian political parties, Collins said.
