SACO – A two-story house was heavily damaged by fire late Saturday.

The report of a fire at 2 Piney Woods Rd. came in shortly after 11 p.m. and the fire was showing through the walls and roof when crews arrived, said Capt. Luke Godbout of the Saco Fire Department.

Godbout said the owners were not home at the time and the only person hurt was a fire department pump operator who had an eye injury. Godbout said he didn’t have any information on what caused the injury, but the pump operator was treated and released from a local hospital.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, Godbout said, but it is not considered suspicious.

It took firefighters until nearly 6 a.m. to get the fire completely out, he said. The effort to fight the fire was hampered by the heavy snowpack, which made it difficult to locate hydrants and stretch hose lines, he said.

Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach firefighters helped at the scene, Godbout said.
