State police are investigating an accident in Lebanon this afternoon in which a pickup truck slid off Milton Mills Road.
Rescuers from Lebanon and Acton initially had trouble finding the vehicle, because it was first reported near 250 Milton Mills Road in Acton. A dispatcher in Sanford traced the initial cell phone call to Lebanon, which also has a 250 Milton Mills Road.
“It’s hard when neighboring towns have the same names for roads,” said Jason Cole, assistant chief of the Lebanon Rescue Department. “In this case, the Milton Mills Road in Acton never touches the Milton Mills Road in Lebanon. Fortunatey, the dispatch can now ‘ping’ the phone in case of an emergency and trace it pretty close to where the phone is.”
Rescuers found the truck resting against a tree on the passenger side. A 54-year-old woman from Alfred with serious injuries was transported by ambulance two miles to a state Park and Ride, from where a medical helicopter transported her to Maine Medical Center.
