CLINTON, N.Y. – Jeff Fanning’s second goal of the game came in the final minute and lifted Bowdoin to a 3-3 tie with Hamilton in a New England Small College Athletic Conference men’s hockey game on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (13-5-1, 9-5-1 NESCAC) pulled their goalie with 1:30 left and Fanning finished off a puck that slipped into the crease with 58 seconds left. Fanning also put in a rebound 5:34 into the first period against the Continentals (10-6-4, 7-4-4).

Daniel Weiniger got Bowdoin’s other goal, his 17th, 7:53 into the third period.

COLBY 3, AMHERST 2: Michael Smigelski scored on assists from Tommy Kader and Jack Bartlett to break a 2-2 tie with 7:57 left as the Mules (8-9-2, 7-6-2 NESCAC) edged the Jeffs (9-7-4, 7-5-3) at Amherst, Mass.

Colby took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tom McGinn with three minutes left in the first period. After Amherst scored twice, Scott Harff scored to tie the game 9:50 into the second period.

Cody McKinney finished with 23 saves for the Mules, who won despite being outshot, 25-15.

USM 3, SKIDMORE 2: Zach Joy and David Nies each scored less than two minutes apart midway through the second period as the Huskies (5-11-4, 3-10-2 ECAC East) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat the Thoroughbreds (8-11-2, 7-6-2) at Gorham.

Paul Conter added one goal and one assist for the Huskies, and Mike Greene and Angelo Vrachnas each collected two assists. Goalie Braely Torris finished with 35 saves.

CASTLETON STATE 6, UNE 0: Seth McNary made 34 saves, and Josh Harris collected one goal and two assists as the Spartans (18-2-1, 12-2-1 ECAC East) shut out the Nor’easters (3-16, 1-14) at Biddeford.

Mike Roper made 28 saves for the Nor’easters in the first two periods and Connor Brogan stopped 12 shots in the third.

BASKETBALL

MIDDLEBURY 74, BOWDOIN 59: The Panthers (18-1, 6-1 NESCAC) went on a 9-2 run to build an 11-point lead with four minutes left and held on to beat the Polar Bears (13-7, 2-5) at Brunswick.

Will Hanley led Bowdoin with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Ryan O’Connell added 14 points and Justin Nowell scored 12.

WILLIAMS 79, COLBY 50: James Wang scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the second half as the Ephs (21-1, 7-0 NESCAC) scored 49 points after halftime to pull away from the Mules (10-12, 1-6) at Waterville.

Michael Russell recorded his 14th double-double of the season for Colby with 16 points and 12 rebounds. He became the seventh player in school history to reach 900 career rebounds.

UMASS-DARTMOUTH 73, USM 62: Colin Burns and Brandon Stephens each scored 20 points as the Corsairs (9-12, 5-5 Little East) took control with a 12-2 run early in the second half and held off the Huskies (9-12, 1-9) at North Dartmouth, Mass.

Otis Smith scored 27 points on 10 of 17 shooting and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Huskies, and Chris Pagentine added 12 points and seven rebounds.

AMHERST 74, BATES 68: Amherst (20-0, 7-0 NESCAC) rallied in the last five minutes to avoid an upset bid by Bates (12-11, 3-5) at Amherst, Mass.

Conor Meehan led Amherst with 21 points. Aaron Toomey scored 18 and was 12 of 12 at the line to help the Jeffs secure the victory.

Brian Ellis led the Bobcats with 17 points.

NORWICH 73, ST. JOSEPH’S 59: Antonio Davis had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and the Cadets (11-7, 7-4 GNAC) pulled away from the Monks (15-6, 12-2) at Northfield, Vt.

Chris Petzy scored 17 points and Zach O’Brien added 11 to pace the Monks, who led by as many as nine points in the first half and trailed 33-31 at halftime.

ROGER WILLIAMS 64, UNE 47: The Hawks (14-7, 6-3 Commonwealth Coast) shot 57 percent from the floor to beat the Nor’easters (3-18, 1-8) at Biddeford.

Charles Fenner had 19 points with four 3-pointers and Marcus Winn added 14 points with four 3-pointers for UNE.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 77, EASTERN MAINE CC 71: Josh Mackie scored 17 points and Coleman Findlay added 15 to lift the Seawolves (15-11, 8-3 YSCC) to a win over the Eagles (6-9, 4-7) at Bangor.
