SOUTH PORTLAND — Dave Thomes, the city’s collection systems manager, has been recognized for outstanding contributions to the water resource protection profession.

The state Department of Environmental Protection last month honored Thomes with the Steve Ranney Award.

Thomes is a veteran steward of local water resources. During his career, he has worked on the maintenance, upkeep and management of municipal and wastewater collection systems.

Thomes joined South Portland’s Water Resource Protection Department in 1988. He worked previously with Portland’s Sewer Maintenance Division.

Thomes has been involved in nearly all facets of the development and implementation of the city’s stormwater program. Those duties range from operating heavy equipment for sewer rehabilitation to helping fine-tune the city’s new stormwater ordinance.
