JAY, Vt. — A New York man who nearly died of hypothermia after collapsing while trying to ski from a bar to a condominium at Jay Peak ski resort was in critical condition Monday at a New Hampshire hospital.

A friend who was with Jason Eichorst said the two became separated from two companions and disoriented in the snow Saturday evening on what they thought was a short trail back to where they were staying, Justin Mason said Monday.

Mason said Eichorst, 32, “had had a few drinks,” but was sober.

An ambulance was called after 9 p.m. Eichorst stopped breathing in the ambulance and was revived at the North Country Hospital in Newport. He was then transferred to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
