The Maine Lacrosse Officials Association is seeking officials for high school and prep school boys’ games and will offer training beginning Feb. 27. The training will be held in four afternoon sessions at North Yarmouth Academy from Feb. 27 to March 27, followed by on-field work at a preseason scrimmage on April 2 or 9, and concluding with the MLOA midseason clinic in mid-May. The University of Southern Maine softball team will hold two youth clinics in March at the Costello Fieldhouse in Gorham. A clinic for players in grades 3 through 8 will be held on March 6 and one for players in grades 9 to 12 will be held March 12. Each clinic will have a pitching and defense session 9-11:30 a.m. and a hitting and baserunning session from noon to 3 p.m. The cost is $30 for one session or $50 for both. The Portland Golf Expo will be held March 12-13 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay. It will include a silent auction to benefit Operation Homefront, which supports soldiers in need.
