AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage is expected to name his nominee to head Maine’s state Education Department today, a week after putting off the announcement.

LePage delayed the announcement to give the State Board of Education time to review the candidate, as required under Maine statute.

The Republican governor has completed nearly all of his Cabinet appointments.

Among its major roles, the Education Department parcels out state funding to public school districts across the state. The current commissioner, Angela Faherty, succeeded Susan Gendron.
