STANDISH — St. Joseph’s broke a 38-38 tie with an 11-0 run midway through the second half and held off Emerson for a 61-51 victory Tuesday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s basketball game.

Ashley Geel paced the Monks (15-8, 7-3 GNAC) with 17 points. Allie Parent added 13 points and Mackenzie Dufour had 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.

Kathy Andrade led Emerson (9-15, 7-4) with 15 points.

 

USM 59, UMASS-BOSTON 42: Courtney Cochran scored 16 points with 12 rebounds and Becky Dixon added 10 points as the Huskies (16-8, 11-2 Little East) downed the Beacons (13-11, 3-10) at Gorham.

Renee Nicholas and Kaylie DeMillo each chipped in nine points for the Huskies.

(10) DEPAUL 66, RUTGERS 62: Keisha Hampton scored 22 points, including five 3-pointers, and DePaul (24-3, 11-1 Big East) held off a late rally to beat Rutgers (14-11, 7-5) at Chicago.

Sam Quigley added 14 for the Blue Demons, who hit 10 3-pointers, including six of their first seven to open an 18-5 lead.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

USM 72, UMASS-BOSTON 54: Otis Smith had 15 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Huskies (10-14, 2-11 Little East) over the Beacons (8-16, 2-11) at Gorham.

The Huskies shot 45 percent from the floor and hit four 3-pointers in the first half on their way to a 42-22 lead. Mike Poulin finished with 13 points and seven assists, Chris Pagentine added 12 points and Alex Kee scored 11.

ST. JOSEPH’S 78, RIVIER 51: Zach O’Brien scored 20 points and Chris Petzy added 19 as the Monks (17-7, 14-3) routed Rivier (12-12, 7-10) at Nashua, N.H.

Tyler Kelley scored 13 points and Anthony Savino added 10 for St. Joseph’s, and Julio Vazquez had 12 rebounds.

 

(2) OHIO STATE 71, MICHIGAN STATE 61: William Buford scored 23 points and Ohio State (25-1, 12-1 Big Ten) finished with an 18-10 run to beat Michigan State (14-11, 6-7) at Columbus, Ohio.

Jon Diebler and David Lighty each had 12 points for the Buckeyes.

Kalin Lucas led the Spartans with 14 points.

(15) VILLANOVA 60, SETON HALL 57: Reserve freshman James Bell had 21 points and Villanova (20-6, 8-5 Big East) broke a two-game losing streak by beating Seton Hall (11-15, 5-9) at Newark, N.J.

Jeremy Hazell had 25 points to lead the Pirates but missed two shots in the final 13 seconds.

 

(19) NORTH CAROLINA 78, WAKE FOREST 64: Tyler Zeller scored 18 points to help North Carolina (19-6, 9-2 ACC) beat Wake Forest (8-18, 1-10) at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Freshman Harrison Barnes added 17 points for the Tar Heels, who scored the first seven points and pushed ahead by double figures midway through the first half.

(20) MISSOURI 92, TEXAS TECH 84: Marcus Denmon scored 20 points to help Missouri (20-6, 6-5 Big 12) beat Texas Tech (11-15, 3-8) at Columbia, Mo.

 

(22) KENTUCKY 85, MISSISSIPPI STATE 79: Brandon Knight scored 24 points, Doron Lamb added 20 and Kentucky (18-7, 6-5 SEC) held off Mississippi State (13-12, 5-6) at Lexington, Ky.
