YORK — A York Police Officer was involved in a three-car crash late Friday while on duty, according to Maine State Police.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Officer Nikolaos Piskopanis, 26, of York was driving north on Route 1 when Leah Lantagne, 54, of Sanford cut him off, Trooper Kevin Rooney said. Lantagne was attempting to make a left turn onto Old Post Road and she struck Piskopanis’s cruiser, which then collided with a third vehicle, driven by Erik Smith, 43, of Auburn, who was stopped at a red light on Old Post Road.

Piskopanis and Lantagne were transported to York Hospital with minor injuries and later released. Smith was not injured.

Maine State Police continue to investigate the incident, but do not believe alcohol was involved. Rooney said Lantagne did receive a ticket for failing to yield.
