FORT MYERS, Fla. — The St. Joseph’s softball team opened its spring trip with a pair of victories Monday.

The Monks rapped out 14 hits in a 9-1 victory over UMass-Dartmouth in an opener for both teams, then got a one-hitter from Maddie Kluna to beat Kenyon College (8-2) of Ohio, 2-0.

Heather Tripp started the scoring against the Corsairs in Game 1 with a two-run homer in the second inning. She added a pair of doubles and scored three times. Jill Howard added three hits and an RBI.

Kluna struck out eight and walked one in the second game. Alyssa Dunn hit an RBI double in the first and Emily Leverone added an RBI double in the fifth.

 

UNE LOSES TWICE: Lauren Larson and Hannah Vesneske combined for seven RBI to lead SUNY-Fredonia (7-0) to a 10-1 victory over the Nor’easters (0-4), and Nicole Casey held UNE to one hit to help Franklin & Marshall to a 4-0 win at Cape Coral, Fla.

Ashley Laporta struck out eight for SUNY-Fredonia. Ashley Gott had an RBI double for UNE.

BASEBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S, FRANKLIN & MARSHALL SPLIT: The Monks (2-2) scored twice in the fifth inning to take a 7-6 win in Game 1, but the Diplomats (1-1) rallied from a 4-1 deficit to take a 12-8 win in the second game at Lake Myrtle, Fla.

Alex Lorenc had two hits in the opener and tied it at 6 with an RBI single in the fifth. Mike Pratt scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to put St. Joseph’s ahead.

In Game 2, Will Benenson, Blue Wells and Zach Honecker each drove in two runs for Franklin & Marshall, which scored four in the second and three in the fourth to take an 8-4 lead.

Pratt had two doubles and four RBI for the Monks.

MEN’S LACROSSE

FROSTBURG STATE 19, ST. JOSEPH’S 3: Ryan Serio had six goals and two assists as the Bobcats (3-4) rolled past the Monks (2-5) at Frostburg, Md.

Phil Hess added three goals and two assists for Frostburg State.

Jonathan Horgan scored twice for St. Joseph’s.
