BAR HARBOR — A company that owns a ferry called “The Cat” that ran between Maine and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, has ended its lease at a Bar Harbor ferry terminal.

Fifteen months ago, Bay Ferries ended its ferry service between Bar Harbor and Portland and Yarmouth.

Until January, the 320-foot catamaran The Cat had been tied up at the Bar Harbor terminal.

The Bar Harbor ferry terminal is owned by the company Marine Atlantic.

Marine Atlantic spokeswoman Tara Laing tells the Bangor Daily News the company has not decided what to do with the vacant Bar Harbor terminal.

Bay Ferries said it ended the service after the Canadian government cancelled a subsidy.

When Bay Ferries began running The Cat in 1998 it reduced the crossing time from six hours to less than three.
