PORTLAND — The fire department in Portland, Maine, has received a grant that will allow it to buy oxygen masks for pets that need help in surviving fires.
The Planet Dog Foundation donated $1,000 to the fire department for oxygen masks that can be fitted for dogs and cats. The foundation says smoke inhalation is a leading cause of death for pets trapped in fires.
The special oxygen masks are designed specifically for animals’ faces and come in three sizes.
The foundation is the nonprofit arm of Planet Dog, a dog product company based in Portland.
