KENNEBUNK — Katherine Paulson died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the state Medical Examiner’s Office.

Paulson, 39, was fatally shot by a police officer responding to a report of a domestic disturbance at her home at 16 Nottingham Court on Sunday. Officer Joshua Morneau shot and killed Paulson after he was confronted with deadly force, according to police.

Today, the only other information released by the Medical Examiner’s Office was the manner of death: homicide. No other information will be available until the state Attorney General’s Office completes its report. The Attorney General’s Office investigates all uses of deadly force by police and determines whether deadly force was justified.

The Attorney General’s Office continues its investigation as Morneau and Sgt.Juliet Gilman, who was also at Paulson’s home, remain on leave, according to Kennebunk Police Lt. Anthony Bean Burpee. The department expects to begin its own investigation into whether department policies and procedures were followed in the next week or two, he said.
