ORONO — The University of Maine fired women’s basketball coach Cindy Blodgett today, effective immediately.
Blodgett, a former star player in the 1990s, coached the team for four years, and went just 4-25 this season.
“All of us who care about UMaine and Black Bear sports owe Cindy Blodgett a debt of gratitude for her contributions as both a player and a coach,” said Maine Athletic Director Steve Abbott in press release. “I wish Cindy the best in all her future endeavors.”
Abbott was just appointed AD at Maine on Monday by outgoing President Robert Kennedy for a two-year appointment.
Blodgett will receive one year’s salary of $109,772, according to the university. Money to fund the buyout will come from private sources and will not use tuition or taxpayer funds, according to the release.
