BANGOR — Cindy Blodgett will meet with reporters today to discuss her firing as head coach of the University of Maine women’s basketball team.

Blodgett was let go Tuesday four years after being hired to rejuvenate the team that she led to national prominence as a star player in the 1990s. Her teams had a record of 24-94 in her four years at the helm.

Blodgett has retained the services of attorney Tom Nale of Waterville, a longtime family friend who represented Blodgett when she played in the WNBA after her college career ended.

The university renewed Blodgett’s contract for two years last September. Under terms of her termination, she’ll be paid one year’s salary of $109,772.

The news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m.
