STANDISH – Kiera Walsh pitched a five-hitter and Danyelle Shufelt drove in the go-ahead run with a fourth-inning single as St. Joseph’s completed a sweep of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Thursday with a 3-2 victory over Simmons.

In the opener, the Monks (9-5) scored eight runs in the third and fourth innings to pull away to a 10-3 victory over the Sharks (7-9). Heather Tripp had a two-run double and Maddie Kluna pitched a seven-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

In the second game, Emily Leverone had an RBI double and Jill Howard an RBI single as the Monks took a 2-0 lead.

UNE SWEEPS WNE: Pinch runner Beth Smith scored on a wild pitch to break a 2-2 tie as the Nor’easters (15-5, 8-0 Commonwealth Coast) beat Western New England (5-11, 1-3) in the opener at Biddeford, 3-2.

Ashley Gott and Megan Gauger each drove home two runs for UNE in a 7-4 victory in the second game.

HUSSON SWEEPS USM: Bri Webster had a two-run double and Kelly Naegelin pitched four shutout innings as the Eagles (4-8) defeated the Huskies 6-1 to complete a sweep at Bangor.

Megan Richard had two hits and two RBI to pace Husson to an 8-5 win in the opener.

Kayla Ferrara had two hits and two RBI in the opener for USM (2-13), and Melissa Caiazzo had two hits in Game 2.

BASEBALL

ST. JOSEPH’S 3, UM-FARMINGTON 2: Todd Keneborus had an RBI single in the 11th inning as the Monks (8-7) edged the Beavers (0-9) at Standish.

Brandon Chase had a home run and Joe Davis added two hits for St. Joseph’s.

ST. JOSEPH’S 7, HUSSON 5: Todd Keneborus went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI to lead the Monks (9-7) past Husson (9-7) at Standish.

Keneborus singled and scored as St. Joseph’s opened a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Keneborus then doubled home a run and scored on Alex Lorenc’s two-run double during a three-run fourth inning that widened the lead to 7-0.
