OAKLAND, Calif. — Brett Anderson struck out eight Tuesday night and outdueled John Lackey, a usual Oakland nemesis, for his first victory of the season, and the Athletics beat Boston 5-0 to snap the Red Sox’s three-game winning streak.

David DeJesus got Oakland on the board with a first-inning RBI groundout, then Hideki Matsui added a two-run double, and Daric Barton and Kurt Suzuki each hit RBI singles in a four-run eighth.

Anderson (1-1) didn’t even need all that support in an efficient 109-pitch, eight-inning outing in which he helped the A’s (9-8) move over .500 for first time this year.

Boston remained winless away from Fenway Park and was shut out for the second time this season.

The Red Sox also lost 1-0 at Cleveland on April 7 during a six-game losing streak to open the season.
