AUGUSTA — The trial of the man charged with murder in the Readfield death of Robert “Bobby” Orr will take place early next year.

An approximate timetable in the case was set this morning, minutes after David B. Silva Jr., 32, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, arson, robbery and theft all connected with Orr’s death Feb. 8.

Silva has been in custody since his arrest in Massachusetts Feb. 10 and is being held without bail.

Deputy Attorney General William Stokes told a group of 10 of Orr’s family members and friends outside Kennebec County Superior Court that a trial schedule was negotiated in the judge’s chambers after Silva’s brief arraignment.

According to information in court documents, Orr, 53, was shot in the head as he sat in a chair in his living room. The home was then set on fire.

Silva is accused of stealing Orr’s pickup, firearms and other items before fleeing the state with his girlfriend, Lindsay Spence.

Spence and Silva had been living in Orr’s home for several weeks prior to the slaying. Spence has not been charged.
